About

Germany in 2025: for the first time since 1945, the Bundestag passes a migration-policy resolution with support from far-right forces. The documentary describes this as a shift away from protecting refugees and toward isolation and deterrence. It follows rescue operations in the Mediterranean and documents conditions in camps at Europe's external borders. People who survived the dangerous route to Europe tell their stories. Alongside them, the film examines how state policy and civil-society engagement interact, how a rightward shift in society influences migration policy, and how flight and migration are increasingly criminalised while humanitarian aid comes under pressure. It also addresses the challenges facing humanitarian organisations such as Sea-Eye. The film features Tareq Alaows as protagonist and includes Aladin El-Mafaalani, Maurice Höfgen, Marcel Fratzscher, Simin Jawabreh, Jochen Oltmer, Monika Schnitzer and Natascha Strobl.
