About

In Taliban-ruled Afghanistan, a documentary follows twelve-year-old Zahra and her peer Zalgai as they approach fourteen, when childhood ends.

If Luck Will Come is a documentary set in Afghanistan under Taliban rule. It follows twelve-year-old Zahra, who is full of energy and joy, and her peer Zalgai. The film counts down from age twelve to fourteen, the age at which childhood ends for Afghan children under the Taliban. For Zahra, being a girl means her schooling will stop when she turns fourteen, cutting across her dreams. Zalgai's situation is different, but according to the film the outcome is not. In the run-up to that age, the two keep playing as silence and duty close in.
