About
A seventeen-year-old girl cares for her bedridden sister amid abuse at home and degradation at school, while a homeless woman offers maternal comfort.
Daisuke Yamanouchi's 1999 Japanese horror film Girl Hell centres on seventeen-year-old Misaki, played by Yoko Satomi. Her mother has abandoned her and her sister is bedridden after a car accident. Misaki cares for her sister while their home becomes a place of psychological terror; their father sexually abuses the two girls. At school, Misaki finds no relief: her closest friend is drawn into degradation for material gain. A mentally ill homeless woman offers her something like maternal comfort. The cast also includes Kana Sakurai, Kazuhiro Sano, Sheena Nagamori, Natsumi Harada, Toshimaru Murai, Yuusuke Kimura and Taishi Takemoto.
