About

A Chinese-American laundromat owner facing an IRS audit discovers she must connect with parallel versions of herself to stop a powerful being destroying the multiverse.

Evelyn Quan Wang (Michelle Yeoh), a middle-aged Chinese-American immigrant, runs a struggling laundromat in Simi Valley, California, with her husband Waymond (Ke Huy Quan). The business is facing an IRS audit, her demanding father Gong Gong (James Hong) has just arrived from Hong Kong, and her daughter Joy (Stephanie Hsu) wants her to accept Joy’s girlfriend, Becky (Tallie Medel).

At a meeting with IRS inspector Deirdre Beaubeirdre (Jamie Lee Curtis), Waymond’s body is briefly taken over by Alpha Waymond, a version of him from another universe. He tells Evelyn that every choice creates a parallel universe and that she must connect with versions of herself from those universes to stop a powerful being from destroying the multiverse.
