About
A eunuch sends his secret police after an exiled minister’s family; an innkeeper recruits three martial artists to protect them.
King Hu’s 1967 Taiwanese wuxia film takes place in China in 1457. After a palace coup returns Emperor Yingzong to power, War Minister Yu Qian is accused of treason and his family is exiled to a remote town in the northwest. Tsao Shao Chin (Pai Ying), a eunuch who controls the secret police, sends his men after the family. At the Dragon Gate Inn, General Wu Ning (Tsao Chien), who once served under Yu Qian, takes it upon himself to protect the exiles. He recruits three skilled martial artists: Hsiao Shao-Tzu (Shih Chun) and the siblings Miss Chu Huei (Polly Shang-Kuan Ling-Feng) and Chu Chi (Hsueh Han).
