About
A Sicilian baron, unhappily married and in love with his young cousin, considers drastic measures because divorce is illegal in Italy.
In Pietro Germi's 1961 film, Ferdinando Cefalù (Marcello Mastroianni) is a Sicilian baron who has been married to Rosalia (Daniela Rocca) for twelve years and no longer loves her. He is in love with his young cousin Angela (Stefania Sandrelli), whom he sees during the summer. Divorce is illegal in Italy at the time, so Ferdinando fantasizes about ways to get rid of his wife. When he reads that a murder committed over wounded honour can receive a light sentence, he considers a plan: to find Rosalia a lover so that he can catch her in an affair.
