About
Cellist Daigo Kobayashi loses his orchestra job, moves with his wife to his hometown, and answers an ad for work as a ritual mortician.
Daigo Kobayashi, played by Masahiro Motoki, is a cellist with an orchestra in Tokyo. When the orchestra is disbanded, he loses his job. He and his wife Mika, played by Ryoko Hirosue, leave the city and move back to his hometown in Yamagata, where they settle in his childhood home. Looking for work, Daigo answers an advertisement about assisting with departures. He assumes it is for a travel agency, but at the interview he learns that the job is with a nōkanshi: a traditional Japanese ritual mortician who prepares the dead in front of mourners before the body is placed in a coffin. The cast includes Tsutomu Yamazaki as Ikuei Sasaki.
