About

A documentary about the Impressionists' first exhibition in Paris in 1874, told through artists, press and Parisians, alongside a Musée d'Orsay show.

Directed by Ali Ray, this documentary looks at the group of artists who became known as the Impressionists and at the year 1874, when they held their own exhibition outside the official channels. At first they were seen as outsiders; with that show, Impressionism was born and the art world changed. The film follows the story through the words of the artists, the press and the people of Paris in 1874 rather than through historians and curators. It is linked to an exhibition at the Musée d'Orsay, organised with the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., which examines that history 150 years later.
