About
Johanna from Leipzig searches for the real thief after her grandfather is suspected of stealing a colonial-era mask from a museum.
Eleven-year-old Johanna (Muinè Keune) lives in Leipzig, where her grandfather Kito (Komi Togbonou) visits from Tanzania for the first time. The initial awkwardness fades when it emerges that Kito studied in Leipzig during the GDR years and speaks good German. He wants to show his granddaughter his homeland, and they visit the ethnology museum.
There a ceramic mask catches his eye: a missing ear may be the one his village keeps as a relic after German colonial soldiers took it. When Kito raises the matter with the museum staff, an intruder steals the mask the following night. Kito becomes the prime suspect and is banned from leaving the country. Johanna wants to find the real thief.
