About
Anton Corbijn's biographical drama follows Ian Curtis, his marriage and the early years of Joy Division in 1970s Manchester.
Control is Anton Corbijn's first feature, with a screenplay by Matt Greenhalgh based on Deborah Curtis's book Touching from a Distance. Sam Riley plays Ian Curtis, Samantha Morton plays Debbie Curtis, Alexandra Maria Lara plays Annik Honoré, Joe Anderson plays Hooky, James Anthony Pearson plays Bernard Sumner, Harry Treadaway plays Steve Morris, Toby Kebbell plays Rob Greton and Craig Parkinson plays Tony Wilson.
In 1975 Ian and Debbie marry in Macclesfield, south of Manchester, when he is 19 and she is 18. Ian withdraws from domestic life and writes poetry alone. A Sex Pistols gig in June 1976 leads him to join friends who are putting a band together as their singer. They call themselves Warsaw, debut in May 1977 and soon become Joy Division. Ian works as an employment agent and sees client Corinne Lewis have an epileptic seizure.
