About
A private eye in 1937 Los Angeles is hired to tail a wealthy woman's husband, and the case pulls him into deception.
In 1937 Los Angeles, private investigator J.J. "Jake" Gittes, played by Jack Nicholson, is hired by a woman who says she is Evelyn Mulwray. She wants him to follow her husband Hollis, the city water department's chief engineer. Gittes takes photographs of Hollis with a young woman, and the pictures reach the press. The real Evelyn Mulwray, played by Faye Dunaway, then confronts Gittes and threatens legal action. He decides the woman who hired him was an impostor who used him to damage Hollis. John Huston plays Noah Cross.
