About

A documentary about three women who work as official Muslim leaders, the Morchidat, in a country where 60% of women have never attended school.

Casablanca Calling follows a quiet social shift in Morocco, where a new generation of women has taken up work as official Muslim leaders, known as Morchidat. In a country where 60% of women have never attended school, these women go into some of Morocco's poorest communities. They seek to draw a line between Islamic teaching and prejudiced or mistaken ideas, to get more girls into school, to argue against marriages at a young age and to urge young people to help build a better Morocco rather than imagine a future in the West. Rosa Rogers's documentary stays close to three Morchidat and shows a society changing, with a mission to educate the country.
