About
Dorothy tries to raise her daughter in Watts while her husband is falsely imprisoned and welfare authorities threaten her.
Dorothy, played by Barbara O. Jones, lives in the Watts neighbourhood of Los Angeles. She tries to care for her adolescent daughter and her husband T.C., played by Johnny Weathers, a Vietnam veteran who has been discharged from the army. T.C. is falsely arrested and imprisoned for a crime he did not commit. Dorothy is pregnant with a second child, and the government threatens to withdraw her welfare unless she has an abortion. Her days are spent trying to obtain welfare and talking with friends and neighbours who face poverty and unemployment, while she wonders whether T.C. will return home. Haile Gerima directed the film.
