About
A documentary follows offenders and victims in Norway, the US and Germany as they confront deadly violence and the question of punishment.
Hubertus Siegert's documentary Beyond Punishment follows three cases of deadly violence in Norway, the United States and Germany and the people on both sides who have not found peace with what happened. In Norway, Stiva returns to the small town where Erik lives after six years in prison. Lisa and Leola live in the Bronx. Patrick and Manfred belong to the third case. The film shows offenders and victims entering into conversation with one another, and it examines the legal and penal systems of the three countries as well as possibilities of restorative justice.
