About
In 1941, Broadway playwright Barton Fink is hired by a Hollywood studio to write a wrestling film and checks into the run-down Hotel Earle.
In 1941, New York playwright Barton Fink (John Turturro) has a Broadway success with a play about the common man. Capitol Pictures brings him to Hollywood, where studio boss Jack Lipnick (Michael Lerner) assigns him a wrestling film. Fink moves into the run-down Hotel Earle in Los Angeles and finds it hard to write about a subject he does not know. Sounds from the next room distract him; the neighbor, insurance salesman Charlie Meadows (John Goodman), comes by to apologize. During their conversation Fink speaks about his feeling for the common man, and Meadows talks about his life as an insurance salesman. The two men become friends as Fink continues to wrestle with the script.
