About
In 1945 Poland, a former Home Army soldier in the anti-Communist underground is ordered to assassinate a Polish Workers’ Party secretary.
In 1945, shortly after World War II, former Home Army soldier Maciek Chełmicki (Zbigniew Cybulski) operates in Poland’s anti-Communist underground. He and comrades including Andrzej Kossecki (Adam Pawlikowski) and Drewnowski (Bogumił Kobiela) are sent to assassinate Konrad Szczuka (Wacław Zastrzeżynski), a secretary of the Polish Workers’ Party. The ambush near a country church goes wrong, and their superior orders a second attempt. At the Hotel Monopol restaurant, Maciek meets Krystyna Rozbicka (Ewa Krzyżewska), a barmaid, while a banquet marks the war’s end. Maciek begins to question whether his assignment is worth carrying out.
