About
A wealthy widow in a New England suburb falls for her younger arborist, and their romance meets resistance over age and class.
Jane Wyman plays Cary Scott, a well-off widow living in Stoningham, a New England suburb. Her routine takes in weekend visits from her two college-age children, social events at the country club with her closest friend and the attentions of several men. Feeling stuck, she becomes interested in Ron Kirby, her arborist. Played by Rock Hudson, Ron is younger, practical and at ease with a simple life outside the materialistic world around them. Through him Cary meets Alida and Mick Anderson, friends who appear to place little value on wealth or status. Cary and Ron fall in love; he proposes and she accepts, but she has doubts about their different ages, social backgrounds and ways of life.
