About
Filmmaker Hassen Ferhani follows his father, writer Ameziane Ferhani, through Algiers and his fascination with the city's jacaranda trees.
In Algiers, Ameziane Ferhani, an Algerian journalist, writer and public intellectual, is fascinated by Jacaranda mimosifolia. The tree comes from South America, and its purple flowers contrast with the white buildings of the city. His son, filmmaker Hassen Ferhani, follows him as Ameziane tries to put Algiers' jacarandas into words.
The documentary combines conversations between father and son with old family video footage. It follows them through the city and connects Ameziane's interest in the trees with the city, memory and writing.
