About

A Danish navy captain and a young scientist build a spaceship and set out for Mars, where an advanced civilisation awaits.

In the Danish science-fiction film A Trip to Mars from 1918, navy captain Avanti Planetaros (Gunnar Tolnæs) is inspired by his father, the astronomer Professor Planetaros (Nicolai Neiiendam), to travel through space to other worlds. He becomes an aviator and, with the young scientist Dr. Krafft (Alf Blütecher), drives the construction of a spaceship. The mocking Professor Dubius (Frederik Jacobsen) opposes the plan, but Planetaros gathers a crew and the ship takes off. During the long voyage the crew becomes restless and a mutiny is narrowly avoided. The ship reaches Mars, where the travellers encounter an advanced civilisation.
