About
A factory worker romances a socialite while his secret coworker girlfriend becomes pregnant and expects marriage.
George Eastman, the poor nephew of wealthy industrialist Charles Eastman, takes an entry-level job at his uncle's factory. There he begins a secret relationship with coworker Alice Tripp, against company rules; Alice believes George's famous surname will bring her advantages. When Charles invites George to a social event, George meets socialite Angela Vickers. The two are attracted to each other and fall in love.
George is drawn into Angela's carefree world, while Alice tells him she is pregnant and expects him to marry her. He avoids Alice and continues to spend time with Angela without Alice's knowledge. When Angela's family invites him to their lake house for Labor Day, George tells Alice the visit will help his career.
