About
In a remote Armenian community in southern Georgia, three friends on the edge of adulthood face choices between tradition and their own futures.
Marlene Edoyan's documentary A Fire There follows three lifelong friends from the Armenian community in Gandzani, a remote village in southern Georgia near the Armenian border. They are on the cusp of adulthood, and the community around them is shaped by exile, memories of the Soviet era and strict social structures. The friends move between inherited traditions and their ambition to shape their own future. With their schooling completed, significant decisions lie ahead. Henrikh wants to study in Tbilisi and later serve democracy through politics. His two friends feel they have learned enough.
