What to expect
This opening is for adults or children who need a low-stimulus environment to enjoy the museum and castle.
It is quieter than normal and as many stimuli as possible are removed.
Emilia van Oranje Nassau, daughter of Willem van Oranje and sister of Stadhouder prins Maurits, once lived at Kasteel Wijchen.
In 1609 she and her husband Don Emanuel van Portugal became owners of the castle.
She sold her pearl earrings to have the castle rebuilt, and the outside still looks as Emilia had it built.
If you are good on your feet, you can climb the tower via narrow stairs and visit 3 floors to learn more about castles in Wijchen and the surrounding villages.
Families and children of every age are welcome.
- Ground floor: Trouwkamer
- Then cellars and first floor
- Learn about former castle residents
