When is Bevrijdingspop 2027?
Bevrijdingspop takes place every year on 5 May, Liberation Day. In 2027 that is a Wednesday. The festival does not move to the weekend: in 2025 it was on a Monday, in 2026 on a Tuesday.
The organisers have not yet published a programme or opening hours for 2027. In 2026 the festival ran from 12:00 to 24:00.
If you need a day off, note that 5 May is a national holiday, but under a number of collective labour agreements it is a paid day off only in lustrum years. Those are years such as 2025 (80 years of liberation) and 2030, so 2027 is not one. Check your own agreement or ask your employer.
Bevrijdingspop 2027 line-up and programme
The 2027 line-up and programme have not been announced yet.
What we do know: in March 2026 the then chairman, Bernt Schneiders, said Bevrijdingspop is in a transition phase. The festival is being scaled down and is looking for a new form, with more room for freedom, peace and democracy alongside the music. This was tried out in 2026 on the Sena Performers Stage. Since May 2026 Pim van Strien has chaired the foundation. The board says music and meeting people remain the basis, while freedom, democracy and respect get a bigger place. It also says that running the free festival is under growing pressure because costs rise every year. What the 2027 festival will look like is not known yet.
Two things belong to the festival: the winner of the Rob Acda Awards, run by Patronaat Haarlem, gets a slot (in 2026 that band, Eskalatie, opened the main stage), and there is an Ambassador of Freedom (Karsu in 2026).
In 2026 most names were known by the end of March, more than a month before the festival. Once the 2027 programme is out it will be on bevrijdingspop.nl/programma. The block schedule shows who plays on which stage.
Bevrijdingspop in 2026 and 2025
2026 was the 46th edition, on Tuesday 5 May, with 125,000 visitors according to the organisers. The Odido Main Stage on the Vlooienveld hosted acts including Eskalatie, Hannah Mae, S10, Gotu Jim, Bankzitters, Karsu and DI-RECT. In the Frederikspark, renamed Park van de Vrijheid for 2026, the Sena Performers Stage had acts including Sophie Straat, De Niemanders, Elephant, Zuco 103 and sor. The Vrijheidsplein stage hosted Noud Noutze and Stapelgek among others, and the Hero Kinderfestival was in the Florapark.
2025 was the 45th edition, on Monday 5 May, in the year of 80 years of liberation. According to the festival's technical producer more than 143,000 people came, and the programme included Rowwen Hèze, Son Mieux and Rondé.
Bevrijdingspop began in 1980 under the name Rockherrie in a Haarlem gym hall, with about 150 visitors and an entry price of 1.50 guilders. It has been in the Haarlemmerhout since 1990, without an entry fee.
Where is Bevrijdingspop?
Bevrijdingspop is in the Haarlemmerhout, the city woodland in Haarlem-Zuid. The site has three parts: the Vlooienveld with the Odido Main Stage and the Vrijheidsplein, the Frederikspark with the Sena Performers Stage and the Florapark with the Kinderfestival.
The nearest stations are Haarlem and Heemstede-Aerdenhout. The organisers publish a map of the site with their practical information. Save it or take a screenshot.
How to get to Bevrijdingspop
The organisers recommend walking or cycling. There is an underground bike park for 400 bikes at the Houtplein, which was open until 00:30 on 5 May 2026. Shared scooters are not allowed near the site and cannot be parked there.
By train, go to Haarlem station and follow the yellow signs to the site. Check your outward and return journey in the NS app and do not count on the last train. Top up your OV-chipkaart beforehand, or check in and out with your bank card or phone.
By bus: in 2026 lines 3, 73, 80, 250, 300, 340, 346 and 356 ran nearby. The Centrum/Houtplein stop could not be reached on 4 and 5 May, and the lines used temporary stops elsewhere, such as Gasthuissingel for line 3. Check 9292 just before you leave.
By car is the hardest option: there is no extra parking and the car parks are expected to be very full. If you do drive, take the Haarlem-Zuid exit from the A9, or park at the P+R near Ikea and take the train into the centre.
Road closures and stops change from year to year. In 2026 the Houtplein and surrounding streets were closed to traffic from 10:00 on 5 May. The 2027 version will be on the organisers' travel page (bereikbaarheid) once it is published.
Free, but know this before you go
Bevrijdingspop is free: you do not need a ticket. There is a fence around the site, required by the authorities so that visitor numbers can be counted. If the site is full, the organisers can stop entry. Bags are searched at the entrance.
Since 2026 payment has been cashless only, with a bank card, phone or smartwatch. You can also buy a prepaid card at the cash desk. Cups, bottles and cans carry a €1 deposit.
You may not bring your own food, drink or alcohol. An empty plastic bottle is allowed and can be filled at the water points. On site there are food trucks and bars, including vegetarian and vegan options. Glass, cans, umbrellas, drones, selfie sticks, camping gear and pets are not allowed (assistance dogs are). No alcohol is served to anyone under 18.
Sound levels can exceed 80 dB(A). Hearing protection is advised, and earplugs are sold at the information desk and at the bar.
With children
The Hero Kinderfestival in the Florapark is free and was open from 12:00 to 19:00 in 2026. It has a stage with performances, plus activities including a craft street, a silent disco, a reading tent, glitter tattoos and a nostalgic carousel.
For each child under 5 you may bring two cartons of juice and baby food or formula, as long as none of it is in glass. Other drinks, water included, stay at home; fill an empty plastic bottle on site.
Accessibility
All entrances are wheelchair accessible and have extra-wide gates. Raised platforms (EXTO decks) at the Odido Main Stage and the Sena Performers Stage are for people with a physical or mental disability. Every toilet block has a toilet for wheelchair users. In 2026 several acts had Dutch Sign Language interpreters.
The site is grass with thresholds, which can be hard with a wheelchair, pushchair or limited sight. There are no disabled parking spaces and no low-stimulation room. If you want to bring chilled medication or special food, read the organisers' instructions first.
Memorial concert, Liberation Fire and 5 voor 5
On 4 May, after Haarlem's Remembrance of the Dead on the Dreef, there is a free Memorial Concert (Herdenkingsconcert) in the Haarlemmerhout. In 2026 it began at 20:30, with the Kennemer Jeugd Orkest and the theme Vergeten Verhalen (Forgotten Stories).
In the night of 4 to 5 May runners carry the Liberation Fire (Bevrijdingsvuur) in a relay from Wageningen to Haarlem. In 2026 that was 13 runners over about 130 kilometres. The fire was lit around 12:30 on the main stage. Around 16:55 the festival falls silent for the 5voor5 moment, which happens at all 14 Liberation Festivals in the Netherlands at the same time.
