Opera, ballet & Musikalische Komödie
Leipzig has had opera since 1693, and the house on Augustusplatz opened in 1960. Opera, the Leipziger Ballett and the Musikalische Komödie play here, usually with the Gewandhausorchester in the pit.
Children's & youth theatre
Founded with a first performance of Emil und die Detektive on 7 November 1946, it is regarded as the oldest professional children's and youth theatre in Germany. Since 2003 it has played in the Theaterhaus in Lindenau.
