About
The theatre piece OTTLA - FRANZ KAFKAS LIEBLINGSSCHWESTER is about Ottla David's life in Prague with her family and her deportation to Theresienstadt. It is shown at Off-Bühne KOMPLEX, Chemnitz, on Sunday 22 November 2026 at 19:00.
What to expect
The production follows the radio play by Petr Balajka, translated by Werner Imhof and realised by rimon productions.
It tells of Ottla David's life in Prague with her family and her deportation to Theresienstadt, where she cares for children in an orphanage in the ghetto.
Letters she kept for her two daughters in Prague serve as direct contemporary witnesses, and a camp doctor tries to save her.
All three sisters of Franz Kafka were murdered in the Shoah, and Kafka's quotes run through the piece as Ottla's mental bond with her brother.
