How to book Natuurmonumenten tickets
Book on natuurmonumenten.nl: open the agenda, choose the activity and book on its page. Some activities are online only, and the activity page says so.
Pay online by iDEAL or credit card. For other activities, you can also book at the desk of a visitor centre, where you pay by PIN or cash, and your ticket is sent by email.
Members get up to 30% off activities and excursions. At step 1, enter your email address and validate it; if your membership is registered under another address, enter your member number and postcode at step 3. You can add other members' details to claim their discount too. Individual membership starts at €4.25 a month, and a family membership makes the children OERRR members.
If you cancel, you get no refund. You can move a booking by phone up to six working days before the activity, subject to availability; the original amount is refunded and you book a new date. If Natuurmonumenten cancels, the ticket price is refunded, but travel costs are not.
Marker Wadden boat tickets are return tickets for a fixed half-day: the crossing takes about 45 minutes and you have more than 3 hours on the island. If the boat cannot sail because of severe weather, you are told at least 24 hours ahead and the ticket is refunded.

What to expect on a Natuurmonumenten activity
Most excursions are outdoors and led by a boswachter. A guided walk can last 1.5 to 2 hours, and you should arrive 15 minutes before departure.
Wear sturdy shoes and clothes that can get dirty, and dress warmly. Dogs are not allowed on some walks or on the Marker Wadden ferry, so check the activity page before bringing one.
Children's activities run through OERRR, the youth programme for ages 0 to 12. Some activities are for children from 6 with an adult, and both adult and child pay.
A ticket for a concert on Marker Wadden can include the boat crossing from Lelystad, the 45-minute concert and a 45-minute nature excursion with a boswachter.

What Natuurmonumenten organises
Natuurmonumenten runs guided excursions, boat trips, workshops, children's activities and concerts across the Netherlands, mostly on the nature areas and monuments it manages.
Excursions go out with a boswachter and range from bird watching and wild animal spotting to historical walks over estates. Boat trips go to Marker Wadden and Tiengemeten and through De Wieden and the Naardermeer.
For children there is OERRR, with activities, nature play areas and the Wilde Buitendagen. The association also runs the Muziek & Monumenten Concerten in knight's halls, country houses, farms, forts and even a watercourse, with the Muziekinstrumentenfonds.
Each activity page gives the meeting point, duration and what to bring.

Muziek & Monumenten Concerten
The Muziek & Monumenten Concerten bring music to knight's halls, country houses, farms, forts and even a watercourse, with a guided tour of the place before or after the music.
Natuurmonumenten runs the series with the Muziekinstrumentenfonds, which gives young talent, music students and top musicians access to instruments from its collection. The concerts let visitors hear those instruments in historic settings.
Some tickets include more than the music: a concert on Marker Wadden can include the boat crossing from Lelystad, a 45-minute concert and a 45-minute nature excursion with a boswachter.
The concerts take place at different monuments through the year; the agenda lists the current locations and times. Members get up to 30% off activities and excursions.

From the Naardermeer to Marker Wadden: Natuurmonumenten since 1905
In 1905, schoolteachers Jac. P. Thijsse and Eli Heimans founded the Vereeniging tot Behoud van Natuurmonumenten in Artis, Amsterdam. Amsterdam wanted to use the Naardermeer as a rubbish dump; the new association had enough members to buy the area in 1906, creating the first Dutch nature reserve.
It grew into a national association that buys, manages and protects nature and cultural heritage. It now manages 112,619 hectares and nearly 3,000 buildings, hundreds of them provincial or national monuments.
Marker Wadden, a cluster of five artificial islands in the Markermeer, was built between 2016 and 2021. It is still a members' association: its members' council sets the main lines of policy, approves the annual report and appoints the board.
